Malmstens' next generation meets Designtorget
Furniture design students from Malmstens are launching their own objects in limited editions – putting craftsmanship, materials and the ideas of a new generation centre stage.
What happens when the next generation of designers gets to take an idea all the way from sketch to finished object?
In a new collaboration between Designtorget and Malmstens Linköping University, furniture design students have developed their own small-scale products, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and attention to detail. The collection launches on 1 October at Designtorget Götgatan in Stockholm, where the students will also present their work and creative processes.
Among the objects is ERO, a sculptural candleholder designed by Ebba Hedström. Inspired by her upbringing on the Kulla Peninsula and the soft stones and dramatic rock formations of Sweden's west coast, the piece translates nature's slow shaping processes into an object made from beech and steel.
Prestaged has selected the collaboration for the glimpse it offers into designers at the very beginning of their careers – and the ideas that may help shape Swedish design in the years ahead.
The products will be available in very limited editions at Designtorget Götgatan and online from the launch.
